I've been a litle busy and distracted.
Oldest daughter graduated from college in May. Youngest daughter got married in May. Son graduated high school in June and 4 days later shipped out to USMC bootcamp (he graduates Sept 12 ----- OOH RAH!!!) Meanwhile...................

You have accomplished a lot considering all you've had going on, and it looks great! The waterfall really looks good.
Do all those graduations and weddings make you empty nesters?

Wow, JD, looking good, my friend, looking good !!!!

Jim - we have the oldest at home still - looking for a job. Otherwise, I finally have my office. However, the Marine Corp got my 'lawn care professional'. With the new fence, waterfall and patio, I created a LOT of extra trimming!!

Carrie - you and Carl need to come over sometime. Give me a shout if you're in the area.

And you need to stop by to see my brugs. All the hard work this summer is finally paying off (don't know how long the blooms will last though). I have 20 plus that are flushing right now, and boy, does it smell good at night.

Looks good. Maybe I need to do the waterfall too!

How many trees do you have? I can't keep track of it! I have 9 trees (I think) so far with plans for 2 more trees (Nanjing Beauty and so-called Midlothian Cypress that I grew from seed this year and it's over 2 feet already).

I need to do something for parkway area - more trees??? Trying to reduce grass there as I never use that area for anything. Just a wasted space and watering and mowing... and edging... :)

Lou,
Good to hear from you. I don't know how many trees I have - not as many as I started the summer with, though. Whew!! Just too hot to do the experimenting I did.
Lets see:
Japanese black pine (doing great)
Crape myrtles - great
Vitex - great
Palo verde - came back from freeze second year - it LOVES THE HEAT!
Chinese pistache - good
Bald cypress - chlorotic - looks pitiful (east Texas tree)
Red Oaks from acorns - great
Montezuma cypress (New Mexico - great, San Marcos - pretty good)
Lace bark elm - growing like a weed!
Shantung maple 'Fire Dragon' leaf scorched some but doing ok
Nordmann fir (one still making it out of 3)
Algerian fir - one hanging in there, but all new foliage scorched in spite of much shelter.
Greek fir - one doing pretty well in container kept under crape myrtles

Dead:
Horstmann's Silberlocke Korean fir
Japanese fir
Himalayan fir
Greek fir
Serbian spruce
Trojan fir
Bristlecone pine
Bulgarian fir
Cilicican fir (held on a long time in full sun - deserves another test with some protection next time)
Pinus hwangshanensis
Concolor fir
Chihuahuan spruce

How many is that?
;-)

Beautiful waterfall pond and the perfect site for it. Great use of evergreens. It is so great to see careful planning come to fruition so nicely. Good vision!

That's great JD!!! I can finally see the waterfall!

I like how you fixed it so no one could photo shop your pictures! :)

Hey mel,
I really didn't 'try' to keep anyone from 'editing' the pictures. I guess its just how photobucket does it now. Now that you mention it, though, I haven't seen any giant grass hoppers, bass boats, hummers, or whooping cranes pasted into it. LOL

red..
thanks for the kind comments. This waterfall has been giving me more enjoyment than I imagined. The birds have learned how to bathe in it. I had about 6 sparrows ata one time rolling around in it the other day. They were hilarious

That was a nice slide show. You've done a wonderful job in your yard. I really like the waterfall and those rocks must have taken some strong muscles to move!

 o
RE: Episode III: RoundUp in the Yard - Return of the JeDi

thanks, denisew. I did the best thing I could have done with those rocks...............I let some young strong backs handle the biggest ones! I ended up letting a fairly well known water-scaping company build the falls. I supplied the rock.

jolana - here is last year's slide show. It shows nearly the bare yard I started with, too.

Boy, I missed a lot. You had a bunch going on with your kiddos, huh? JD, everything looks fantastic and sorry about all of the loss but now you know. This gardening business is hard sometimes.
How long did it actually take to install the waterfall?

I miss the giant grasshoppers, lol
They gave it that cheesy, pulpy Asian feel, LMBO
Thank you for posting this

The crew showed up at 7:30 a.m. and they were done cleaning up and gone by 3:00 p.m. with the waterfall running. They waited just a little bit on me when I had to go buy some more rock. (and I thought I would have a bunch to give away before we started!!) I LOVE the waterfall - the sound is so relaxing and it attracts birds. It has rewarded me far more than I imagined. Absolutely GREAT investment.
