Wow -- just look at those amazing and colorful lichens growing on that wonderful cliff; plus the reflection!

Was just reading about lichens in one of my magazines recently. There are thousands of varieties of these interesting 'plants' (actually they are a symbiotic combination of algae, fungus and bacteria) and which are proving to be the canary in the coal mine, so to speak, for the earth. There are people whose sole occupation is to study them.

Thanks for posting it here. It is clear that you love your subjects, even Rex! LOL

RC, those are great pics? What are those wonderful *thistle flowers* I didn't remember WMR being so beautiful
Now I need to go there
Thank you
BTW, eventhough I was under the weather a few months back you still could've worked so I had to drink all of the boxed stuff, hehehe

Hi Jolana. If I had known you were under the weather, I'd have sent you a box or two of the good stuff. Sure hope you are doing better now.

The pics were taken on my first trip to the Wichita Mtns. I think we hit it at a really nice time. The cool weather and recent rains had it putting on a nice face for the camera. Of course, probably about right now the trees are starting to turn and I bet it is even prettier.

As for the lovely little purple thistle... I don't know the name, I'm better at clicking them than knowing them.

Roselee, very interesting about the lichen. I figured it was just some "plant". Hopefully we aren't doing too much damage to them. Of course, we seem to do a lot of stuff to nature by accident before we know what we are doing.
