My sister has this. When we talk about our most hated, impossible to get rid of, nuisance weed, this is hers. If you get it in your lawn or established elsewhere, you will never be rid of it, according to her. I finally got rid of nut grass but she never got rid of this.
Well, I got a lot of new soil and that had some in it but if you get after it quick the first season you can pull it out carefully, mind you, without breaking any. Don't ever let it get a hold of the situation. That was the easy job and I was relentless, carefully pulling GENTLY for a whole season. I've noticed that new soil brought in is often contaminated with it and it will soon take over.
I hate to tell you this but the way I finally got rid of it (the really bad, persistent stubborn crud I used to call other names which I can't type here) was when we killed the entire lawn one season with Roundup applications and then we put on the 6+ inches of new soil and sand the next year. The stuff is from HELL. Sorry I can't really help because I know how bad it is. Drastic solution, huh? It wasn't the reason we killed the lawn but, by cracky, it got rid of it. I don't think even this would work for Star of Bethlehem. Those little pesky and sexually promiscuous bublets are probably resistant to Roundup.
