RE: San Antonio Swap

| Dang, we are almost there. I keep hoping the weather will behave. |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
| Three weeks to go. I've got new growth on some plants, in spite of 3 freezes this week on the hill I live on. |
RE: San Antonio Swap

| Does anyone have the milk weed vine to trade, the botantial name is metelea vine. Please email me if you do. Barbra, |
RE: San Antonio Swap

| Going to the coast today, I can check to see what I still have to trade. It was 26 degrees for 7 hours, lost all my plumeria and hibiscus, not sure what else. I will post when I know. Barbra |

| Have a good trip Barbra. We hope you find some nice surprises of what survived when you get there, although sometimes it is hard to tell until the weather gets warmer. I'm wondering right now if my three sweet almonds are alive. |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
| R... I discovered yesterday that my sweet almond is putting out shoots near the ground. |

| Thanks Kathy! My yard seems to be in a cooler microclimate than yours and my plants are not nearly as advanced in their growth as yours (no bloom spikes yet on Larkspur, etc.) so this is very good news :-) |
RE: San Antonio Swap

| Are you ready? On weather.com the 10 day forcast goes to Friday the 12th. Mostly high 60's. |

| Hi guys!! I don't post much..ok hardly ever! But been working with my garden and flowers and have some wants. I was thinking it would be fun to attend your swap. I have a few things, but not much. I am looking for some Mexican bird of Paradise, and coral vine. I will look around this weekend and see what I can come up with. I am always looking for new plants. I am from Oregon originally and now live by Timberwood Park and have multitudes of deer. So looking for plants deer wont eat mostly!! I will post more maybe tommorrow!! Thanks everyone! |

| Hi Gina! It's great to hear from you and so glad to hear you are coming to the swap. When I unload my greenhouse I'm pretty sure I'll find some coral vine that I dug last fall. Also think I have the 'yellow' Mexican bird of paradise. Someone else might have the 'regular' Mexican bird of paradise ... (not taking time to look up their botanical names :-) |
RE: San Antonio Swap

Hey Gina. Please do join us. I lived in Timberwood when we started this swap. Kathy |

The weather forcast for March 13. Sunny with a high of 75 degrees. FYI: the spring swap has always been in late March. And the fall swap in mid October. |

| Great weather for next saturday!! Bad news my guava seeds are barely sprouting out of the seed coat. so should I take some to the swap? because they are not even seedlings. I do have some mexican bird of paradise coming up, the castor beans are barely sprouting too. however I will go see a friend of mine and see if she has anything that I can have to take to the swap. my daturas have not yet sprouted either, the frost got most of my plants thanks to my CAT he opened the tarp and left it open and the rest is history, I will be able to get some cuttings for oleanders but is anyone interested in unrooted cuttings? I will come back and post tomorrow. |

| Kathy, do you think you could contact the park people and ask them to take the walls off our pavilion for the day ? Or at least open them up ? It will be such a pretty day, and we'll basically be stuck inside a little building. Poo ! Go to the Exchanges page for more about the swap. I'm posting another message about a few more plants I'll bring IF someone wants them. patty |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
| Marcie, bring what ever you want. Lots of people bring fresh cuttings. Wrap the bottom ends with a damp paper towel. Then wrap that with syran wrap. Patty, thanks for the reminder. |
RE: San Antonio Swap

| Speaking of cuttings, does anybody want some fig tree cuttings? I've got a miniature black fig (it gets about six feet tall and the little figs are delicious) or what my Uncle Nap calls a 'honey fig'. It's very sweet. He carried this fig tree from place to place all his long life after he moved away from Arkansas as a young man. |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
| I wouldn't mind trying to root that! I looked up 'honey fig' and found this Peter's Honey Fig...does it look like this? Nice story about taking the fig tree wherever he went. Sheila went back to the apartment complex she used to live in to take cuttings from their fig tree because she liked their figs so much! |

| Linda, it does look like that -- it's a light colored fig. Whatever it is, I've gotcha' down for some cuttings of "Uncle Nap's Honey Fig" :-) |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
| ooh ooh ooh...I want some fig cuttings |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
| You got 'um, Joey! I'll bring a few extras, too. Figs are easy to root. Anybody, how about Jujube, Li variety? I might be able to find and dig up some root sprouts. |
where is everyone ?
| | |
| Is anyone else coming ? Looks like we have very few people showing up. bump |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
| Roselee - I would love a fig cutting also. |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
| Okay Shirley, you'll have some too. I'll bring several bundles of fig cuttings. I only request that you label them "Uncle Nap's Honey Fig" in memory of the one of the kindest men that ever lived as well as a gardener extraordinaire! :-) I'm gathering up the things I'll be bringing and looking forward to seeing everybody tomorrow! If there is anything else on my list y'all want me to bring speak now or forever hold your peace ...well, at least hold it until the fall swap. LOL |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
| Absolutely, the figs will be "Uncle Nap's Honey Figs." One of my earliest childhood memories is watching my grandfather pick figs in his orchard in Austin. After breakfast, the extras went to a bench out by the street where they were sold on the honor system. The brown turkey figs I have now aren't as sweet, but then it could be the memory is sweeter. |
RE: San Antonio Swap

| The memeory is always sweeter! See you there! |

| Hi guys, sorry about my not making it to the swap. Had some issues going on ,and I just could not make it, finally around 3 p:m it cleared up, I guess I am not meant to meet you guys, this is the second time I had planed to attend and for whatever reason (health) is just does not work out. |
RE: San Antonio Swap

| We missed you! Someone took your nigella and they will have a home. I can mail you seeds if you want. Kathy |
RE: San Antonio Swap
| | |
Marcie, I confess. I got your Nigella seeds and planted them all. I'll collect seeds when they get ripe and save some for you. It will be a while, I planted them Sunday. Sorry you didn't get to come. pa |
RE: San Antonio Swap

| Hi Marcie, There you are, I'd been looking at another thread. Sorry you couldn't join us. Hope to meet you in the fall. The creeping fig didn't make it anyway so you didn't miss it. It apparently needs warmer weather to root and I hope to have it in the fall. |
