Too late to plant beet seeds?

Does anyone have any experience growing beets in North Texas? I've been thinking of planting beets & radishes for my winter/spring crop, but I'm worried that it's too late to plant the beets. Both say that I can start planting in February, so theoretically, I'm OK. But, I need to harvest the beets in time to plant my tomatoes...that will be spending their first few months in pots so that I can bring them into the greenhouse/house whenever March decides to get too cold.

I don't want to plant them now if I should have done it in the fall. I'm OK with harvesting somewhat small beets but I'd rather have them closer to baseball size than golfball size! :)

Thanks!
