I don't have any experience with the clematis you mention. I've read where there are some varieties that do well in Texas, but it's too hot for others.

I do have experience with Lady Banks rose and it gets HUGE. In fact the largest rose in the world is a Lady Banks that is growing in Ariz. and covers something like an acre. It is truly a house eater. My son in law planted one at the back of their house and in no time it was hanging over the front porch. They had to take it out. However, some people are able to keep it under control.

In 8a (DFW area), Lady Banks gets big, but nothing like that rose in Arizona!
It's pretty much evergreen, so it makes a nice shrub when bloom season is over, & it's thornless.
I just planted 3 of them between me & a neighbor!

Thank you for responding. I already have a lady banks rose in my yard. I love the blooms in spring. But the rest of the year it is evergreen so wanted to plant a clematis through it for some color. I've never grown a clematis before but want something in bright color like red or dark pink. And I read that rosemoor is a long blooming one. Any other suggestions would also help.

Believe clematis prefer somewhat alkaline soils, so could be an issue if you're in the piney woods on Houston's north side. The old 'Jackmanii' cultivar and c. texensis hybrids do well in the Dallas heat. 'Rosemoor' sounds great, though hard to speculate how it would do here, especially since it appears to be an unknown hybrid. Hope someone with experience chimes in. Appreciate you bringing it up - I'll be keeping an eye out for one to try.
