I love salvias. My S Gregii's , S. penstemonoides, S. farenacia., S. chiquita, Salvia regla, S roemeriana, S. lyrata. They are deer resistant, drought hardy and will seed themselves. Scutelaria wrighti , Oenothera macrocarpus, Calilophus berlandieri , Callirhoe ( wine cups)

I think borage might be a good self-sowing perennial, and it may also be deer (and possibly rabbit) resistant.

I'd also try Blue Larkspur, Broom Snakeweed, Lemon Paintbrush, Chocolate Daisy, White Milkwort, Dwarf White Zinnia, and Blackfoot Daisy.

Rosemary, Lavenders, Copper Canyon Daisy, Salvias, Limelight Artemesia, Woodworm Artemesia these are heat and drought tolerant and the deer will not bother these

Thanks for all your suggestions. An oregano groundcover was beautiful for many years and the critters didn't eat it, but last year it just up and died. Probably the drought.

Pigeon berry self sows and so far the small patch in the front hasn't been eaten by deer.

I use so much mulch things have a tough time self sowing around here, but it doesn't slow larkspurs down one bit. It's a most valued self sower.

A groundcover oregano sounds wonderful. Do you remember what variety it was?

Larkspur and Poppies are my two favorites. They are so thick this year I just hope they don't kill themselves.If you would like seeds let me know it might be a little late to plant but i have plenty.

The photos of your larkspur that you put up in the gallery are what made me promise myself that THIS YEAR I was going to sow them no matter what!

I was a bit late but got them sown. I did several kinds of poppies at the same time so I can't be sure which is which.

I hope to one day have the kind of display in my yard as you have had in yours.

Melva, you will have the same or better display. Larkspurs are SO easy to grow. Once you have them growing you never have to plant seeds again. Plantmaven Kathy has posted some gorgeous pictures too. She grows all the colors; pink, white and purple/blue. I keep only the purple/blue ones and pull the other colors when they appear. This is just a personal preference.

Roselee, I don't know the variety of oregano, but do know it wasn't Mexican oregano. It was very low growing, evergreen and freezing weather didn't hurt it. Spread pretty fast. It was on the east side of the house so it was not subject to the hot afternoon sun. Thanks for your offer of seed. I'll take you up on the offer if I can't find some locally.
