Would it be wrong?

Obviously I know the answer or wouldn't be asking :-)

We were walking along a rural road in our neighborhood and noticed a lot of pigeon berry growing along the side of the road! I just paid $7 for a quart-sized pot of pigeon berry! I want to get these natives established in my dry but shady front garden.

OK, I know it would be wrong but I am very tempted to dig up a couple :-) Anyone have experience in how fast they spread?

Pam, are they large enough for you to take cuttings and leave the plant??? They root easily. I have never tried to grow them from seeds, but that is a thought also.

They have an average to slow growth rate. But mine get a lot of shade. Mine sometimes will layer root on the ground. Try some cuttings.

Fabulous idea! There are some that are plenty large enough for cuttings! No harm, no foul!

They grow easily from seed. I have germinated and grown them a lot. If you ask the land owner, it is fine to dig but getting cuttings is a good way too.
