spring or fall plant swaps?

My garden club holds a plant swap in both the spring and in the fall. This fall, we're doing a big outdoor community plant swap at a new community gardens that will open soon here in Allen at the Villages of Allen and Fairview. Which do you prefer to attend - one in the spring or in the fall or does it make any difference? Maybe both are just as good since you get different plants at different times of the year - i.e., you get spring plant divisions in the fall and fall blooming plant divisions in the spring. I know it usually works this way, but I've received spring blooming stuff in the spring and fall blooming stuff in the fall.

As everyone probably knows already, I love 'em both:

Spring:
plants are ready to put on growth, & people are happy to be outside & cure their cabin fever.

Lots of things are blooming, & new seedlings have their whole growing season ahead of them.

This is the time to trade annuals & vegetable seedlings.

Autumn:
Lots of people are thinning out their gardens getting ready for the dormant season, so they're ready to trade their extras.

Autumn is the best time to plant trees & most perennials.

So I'd say....

Have 'em both!

Yes, we're definitely doing both. We usually get quite a few perennials and vines at both. Occasionally at the spring event, someone will bring in tomato transplants they started from seed. I think I'll start some veggie garden seedlings this year for the spring swap. The spring swap is at our monthly garden club meeting and the public is invited as always, but the fall event is to be held at an outdoor festival - a new event for us, so I'm really hoping for a good turnout then. Since the community garden will be up and running, next spring (2011) we can hold our swap up there instead of our regular meeting space. There is definitely opportunity for plenty of plants either way.
