I have 2 of these in the DFW area. I don't know why they wouldn't do well in Houston as long as they are in a bed that is well drained.

This bulb is quite small and a bit like a football. Not daff like at all. The foliage comes up and it is long and thin.

It's white with pink on the outside of every other petal. I think it's "Lady Jane", but I'm not sure. When I planted the bulbs, I had about 50 I was planting so I was going pretty fast. Some of my daffodils were "Pipit", so the bulbs were pretty small, but I probably just missed the difference in shape. Unless that whole bag was tulip bulbs and the others just haven't come up yet... (I'm kind of new to this) The rest of the foliage coming up looks like daffs to me. I wish I still had the variety brochure from that plant sale...

The bulbs are all in a raised bed, so hopefully they'll survive our spring monsoons... Although I guess if we get another summer last last that won't be a problem. Cynthia, do you have idea whether I could expect these to naturalize?

You might try Tulipa praecox, the Texas Tulip, if you have clay soil that cracks in the summer.

My Lady Janes are up but not blooming yet. Not too crazy about the foliage but the flowers are pretty. I've heard they do naturalize fairly quickly, but this is only my second year with them so too early to tell for sure.

I have Lady Janes and another whose names eludes me now but looks like her only smaller. The elusive name was planted this winter and they are blooming the Lady Janes are returning and are behind them. So are the Cynthia clusiana.

Tulipa clusiana is known to survive and grow in Mobile, Alabama. I have five in the "front yard".
