Its too cold outside to go out and play... nothing better to do but share some pics. I hope I'm not out of line putting these here, but I get lost trying to find "the most appropriate forum".

Enjoyed looking at your garden. I am very impatient for spring this year, and pictures do help! Thanks for sharing. Love your boxwood in the front, and those KO's will be huge and beautiful! :)

Thank y ou! I love your knockout bed with the stone edge. Did you cement the stones in yourself? Looks really well done. c

Thanks for looking! I am excited about the knockouts, they grew 2 foot last year from bare root plants and bloomed non-stop through November! Pam, where did you live in Granbury? Cynthia, I haven't mortared anything yet, those stones are so flat and heavy that they stay put pretty well, I am going to wait and see if I need to move them forward before making them permanent...I kind of like the idea that I can easily make changes if the plants get too big! Here is a pic of my real retaining wall (part of my never-ending-one-woman-patio/pergola-project), also built with those stones (and no tools!) |

Very, very nice, but my back hurts just thinking of all the work this entailed.

I think it looks great and you're not even finished! Good luck and my sincere admiration for tackling a project of this magnitude by yourself...do you hire out;)?

Haha No! Oiler, I hope I'll never have to do anything of this magnitude again. I fell victim to the DIY magazines lies about how easy this project would be.Yes Carrie, my back was a bit unhappy with me for a while there, but on the bright side, if/when my back finally gives, I'll have a nice patio with filtered shade and a constant gentle breeze where I'll be happy to just sit and watch my flowers grow! :-)

Now that is worth working for, and congratulations on doing such a great job.

What a great landscaping project you've got going there. It looks wonderful. It's probably good that the stones are not mortared in place because if you are anything like the rest of us you'll probably be moving them someday to make the beds wider. I can't even remember how many times I've moved my rock borders out to make room for more plants and less grass to mow. That moving has been done over the space of 20 years and I'm still moving them ... LOL. Well, as they say -- a garden is never finished (and that's what makes it fun :-) but the work is done at a more leisurely rate as time goes by. Right now you are laying a great foundation and I know you'll be glad when this much is done. I know I was! We'll be looking forward to more pictures as the garden progresses!

Nice pictures and a great yard! And after seeing them, I now know what everyone is talking about with regard to the stone - yikes! That's some bed you got there! I'm sure it will develop beautifully for you. Please post some updates later - I love before and afters. Lynn

I love the pergola and retaining wall! I have also wanted to try thuja like your border wall. Arborvitae is just so pretty and a different evergreen than all the cedars ;-) We lived up on the Peak for 3 years and moved back to the city this past May. I miss my old neighbors, the cows. Pam

Cows make wonderful neighbors!!!! Free fertilizer too ;-) I love the peak, I have seen sunsets behind the peak that are so breath-taking I have had to pull over to watch on my way home! The views must have been really something from there. I am posting a link to my never-ending home improvement project album with the befores and durings...(no afters as it is a never ending project)! The last pics show the pergola and patio almost finished, I can't wait to get some vines growing up there!

The sunsets were spectacular up there! I miss that living in a neighborhood with lots of trees and privacy fences, but it's cool that the Brookshire's is only 1 mile away here. I love the paver design that you used under the pergola, looks great. You've done a lot with the house, I am impressed! Pam
