They will grow but maybe not optimally. I think it might be dependent on what kind of Yucca . Desert yuccas and central Texas yuccas, not the soft leafed coastal yuccas. Some varieties are good with high mineral soils. I know some cactus growers that use it but also add drainage to it because their is a good amount of clay in the composition of decomposed granite. I see sotol and yuccas growing in and around Enchanted rock batholith area so I would say go for it. It has got to be better than the 100% caliche.

I know a agave and Yucca grower and he prefers a mix of 50/50 mineral/ humus for raising babies but once large, then the mix goes more to the mineral. He likes barkfines for the humus component.

When I unpotted Color guard yuccas it looked like they were potted in a mixture of fine pine bark and decomposed granite with a few time release fertilizer pellets so that's what I mixed up to plant the ones in pots. For the ones in the ground I dug a generous amount decomposed granite into the hole. Can't say yet, but we'll see how it works.

Will this decomposed granite be in a pot? I ask because of the clay content, I think that just decomposed granite in a pot will need perlite or barkfines added so there is not the tendency to compact.

No, not in a pot. It's basically a mound 8-12 inches deep that sits on clay soil.

it will compact too much and smother the plant. I use it mixed with mulch for all my cacti/succulents/agaves
