Wild Am. persimmon in panhandle?

For a long time I've guessed that American Persimmon might be a good fruit tree for naturalizing here in NM, although very very few people are growing it in the state.

After some sleuthing I discovered that the closest wild population of this tree to me is not all that far away, in the Canadian River valley around the town of Canadian in the TX panhandle. This represents the northwestern extent of the species, and would be the best genetic material for growing in NM.

Anybody out there have any info on this population of American Persimmon? Some day in the fall I'll make a trip back there to harvest some seed, but in the meantime any tips would be appreciated...
