Crinum Ellen Bosanquet pruning

I have an Ellen Bosanquet crinum that has been severely damaged by the ice and hard frosts. Almost all of the leaves in the entire clump are brown and limp. Generally, I just remove damaged leaves, but this year I have to trim much more. Can I cut the entire stalk (stem) down to the ground, or do I just remove all of the leaves, leaving the tall, unsightly neck?
