Well no one else chimed in, but I answered my own question today rainbow gardens down the street had lots of last years stock left, i saw a week or so ago they tried to protect them during last frost and they are fried anyway.... So ill pass. Btw, I know a lot of people like that nursery, but there are a lot of poorly cared for plants, old root bound plants, and while you can get plenty of advice from the staff, I'm not impressed with the quality of that advice.

There are two Rainbow Gardens here: one on Thousand Oaks, the other on Bandera. You will come nearer to finding fresh nursery stock at Lowe's and Home Depot, but when you're looking for out-of-the-ordinary plants, Rainbow Gardens is the place to begin your quest. For advice, search out les dames anciennes.

I'm glad you found out the 'easy way' that Callistemon 'Hannah Rae' does not survive San Antonio winters. Too bad. I looked it up when you first posted and it's a beautiful plant, but having no experience with it I waited for others to answer.

Late last year I planted a bottlebrush from Lowes sale table that was labeled "Bottlebrush Limpiatubos, Callistemon citrinus". It may be just a common native variety, but it proved to be evergreen and left uncovered it survived beautifully even before being well established. This is my first bottlebrush.

I happen to love Rainbow Gardens. I'm just glad neither of them is very close to me or I'd be in more trouble than I am now ... ;-)
