Pest War Started Already!

I planted out my broccoli plants about 10 days ago. I was dismayed to find a bunch of them 1/2 eaten today. I thought all the bugs would be dormant at this time of year. What kind of bugs do you think would be out this earlier?

I sprinkled egg shells and coffee grounds all around the plants today...may be to little too late...I also sprayed with insecticide soap.

Any suggestions? Last year something decimated my seedlings as fast as I could plant them...

Do you see a white moth flying around your garden? It laying eggs on you broccoli and it's offspring(little green worms) are eating the plants. I spray my brassicas with Bt(Bacillus thuringiensis.

BT works well against caterpillars, but wholly ineffective against other creepy crawlies.

I feel you. =(

I'm just happy I'm already seeing *tons* of ladybug larvae around my raised beds! Maybe I won't need to buy any this year.
