rooted Angel Wing Begonias into the ground

Hi All

A few weeks ago I decided to "prune" my hanging basket of the brown leaf Angel wing Begonia. To my great joy the cuttings I planted straight into the garden soil are still alive. Those of you who know things are probably laughing. No sign of growth on top of the soil. I have checked, some modest roots below.

Any suggestings on what I can do to encourage them to grow? I've tried liquid 20/20/20 blue stuff. The bed had composted manure added in January before I planted tulips and I did this after I removed the bulbs late March.

Any thoughts about what I could plant next to them so the bed doesn't look so pitiful? It's part sun.

It was such a fun frugal thing to do I hate to give up on the prospect of a bountiful bed of brown leaves and orange flowers but I don't know if I can wait all summer.

thank you

c
