Plant sale and/or swap question

When you get irises at plant sale and swaps do you prefer them in pots or bare rooted? Does it really matter to you?

What about day lilies? same question.

A couple of friends and I had a discussion about this. Some felt every plant is better off in dirt....some felt it was safer bare rooted. Not as much chance of getting 'bugs and stuff', esp since these are coming from home gardens.

My thought it's easier and cheaper to do bare root when possible, but.......

I prefer bare root.................not so much digging when I plant it.

Bare rooted is better at a swap because they are easier to carry to the car and find a place for.

either way, it`s kind of fun getting them in dirt cause you get to see what other people garden in. And you get worms! Since ours drowned during Ike it was nice to see them in the plants and we now have worms in our yard.

Who'd a thunk we'd be in the worm business too? I never thought of the worms and good stuff in the dirt...just worried about the bad stuff. Guess I need a little more positive thinking, huh?
