It's one of the many kinds of tradescantia, also called spiderwort or widow's tears. I love those true blue flowers, but some varieties can spread and be hard to control.

Thanks for the info. I have another plant that was passed down from my grandmother that I have been unable to identify as well. I'll post some pictures as soon as it blooms. Thanks again for all your help and comments.

Carrie, it grows wild in our area. I used to have several pop up but have not seen any this year. I may have to bring my shovel over. I love that carefree blue in my garden.

It is a tradescantia, and as Roselee says, some may be invasive. The photo of the spiderwort you have appears to be a clump-forming spiderwort, rather than the low spreading varieties that take over flowerbeds. A few years ago, I dug up a small clump growing under some railroad tracks near the Brazos river and I have been very pleased with it.

It is Commelina or Blue Day flower, a highly invasive species, mostly considered a weed.

If it were me, I would take a nice picture, then make every effort to eliminate this as quickly as possible. Use the picture to enjoy the pretty flower.

The root system will spread under your pool decking and become a nightmare.

The dayflower grows much lower to the ground that the spider wort.....................I have both, and pull the dayflower everywhere I see it, but the spider wort is tall and the leaves are quite different.

Yes, the commulina is highly invasive and that is one that I have been trying to eliminate from my beds for years. The tradescantia, however, has been a mannerly plant. As Carrie says, the leaves of the tradescantia are different (more narrow and longer), as is the more upright growth habit.
