Nope but thanks Kentuck...I work in Landscape and plants and have never seen this shrub in 15 years....that's kinda why I am stumped!

First gut feeling was indigo but not false indigo...6 ft tall , dies back...

Mescal Bean?

Are they the same plant?

Mescal Bean = Sophora secundiflora.

Texas Mountain Laurel = Calia secundiflora.

are mescal bean and tx mountain laurel not the same? maybe some variety, leaves are different and color is more navy, denim blue. will google more on your suggestion.

Jacaranda? Fern type leaves with purple flowers

Bluish purple flower, but I don't think it's hardy in our zone.

I was thinking Blue Potato Bush if it's in sheltered location.

Wow, thanks for all the posts. I am familiar with all the above named plants and no, this is not any of them. That's what's driving me crazy. I will have to take a picture up close of the leaves when I am there next week and post.

Now I am wondering since it isnt any of those guesses...one last guess before I wait for the picture - some blue variety Rose of Sharon...

What about Buddleja davidii (butterfly bush)?

anyone? Has darker blue blooms than wisteria, but someone suggested evergreen variety. However not evergreen in zone 7/8 Coppell, TX.

Thanks for letting us know! I never thought of trimming evergreen wisteria like that.

There is a huge one flourishing at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, right behind the conservatory so they may actually be marginally hardy here.
