Figs prefer alkaline soil mediums. Your irrigation water might be alkaline already, and if that is the case, the lime wouldn't really be necessary. Lime is added when you are using peat moss as a soil medium, which is extremely acidic.

Peat moss is low down on the list for me as a potting medium for Texas. When it dries out, it's real hard to get wet again (unless you completely dunk the pot and let it soak in a bucket or tub of water).

If you don't know what is in your potting medium, pay close attention to the health of the leaves, that will tell you if the roots are getting enough water and the pH of the medium is suitable for the fig. M

Thank you Mackel....mine are in the ground and this one is likely getting fertilizer run off from my tomatoes and citrus trees in pots. So maybe lime is not the answer. sure wish I'd get a fig.....
