We've always liked threadleaf coreopsis (Coreopsis verticillata) and tried the 'Moonbeam' variety when the kids were young, but could not get more than a couple years out it - most likely had more to do with us as distracted gardeners at that time. The flowers on 'Route 66' look fantastic... seems like a really nice gift plant for a Texas garden.

Growing it now b/c somebody I trust told me she grew it last year & was a non-stop bloomer, plus it has returned. I've tried coreopsis b4, unsuccessfully. I live in Houston metro area.

bossy - I'm starting to give up on coreopsis, because they haven't been great bloomers for me. If this one blooms a lot for my mother, I may get one next year.

msrose, you won't need to buy one, just get some seeds from your mom's plant and direct sow them. It blooms a long time, I like it, very dainty. Its seeds about but not too bad.

Woops, just did a bit more checking on this one so I'm editing my post. It was discovered growing wild by the side of a road in Lucinda Pennsylvania & it has a patent #. I'd still try the seeds. They are usually solid yellow. Maybe it crossed with something?

I can't get in my head around how you can patent a plant discovered growing on the side of the road? But, there it is.

Thanks for the info! I've never gotten seeds from a plant before. Are they in the flowers?

How pretty! It looks like a cross between gaillardia and coreopsis.

I love threadleaf coreopsis too. I have great luck with lanceleaf coreopsis.

The only problem I ever had with Coreopsis was they spread and became ugly if not pruned back. They did bloom all summer long.

Looks kind of like my skeleton leaf goldeneye. Mine is evergreen in central texas and deer resistant too.
