Virginia Creeper - best way to kill it?

I am sorry to keep asking questions, but y'all are my best gardening resource since moving back to Texas. Anyway, I found that I have a Virginia Creeper in a few spots around the yard - isn't it funny how if you are sensitive to some plants you develop a 6th sense about recognizing a problem before you touch it? Unfortunately when I can in to check the net for info on what that 5 leaflet vine was, I read reviews that said nice things about it, and believed that it was fine... now I know that I might as well have grabbed a hand full of poison ivy. Thankfully I only pulled one small group of it, but looking around the yard I see it in several other places. I am not usually much of a fan of toxins, but this stuff has to go. What would you recommend that would not bother St. Augustine? A flame thrower seems a bit extreme, but it crossed my mind.
