What is the name of the vine?

Oops! Oh, well, I tried to look it up from my packing slip and I guess I decided against one of those. I was told today, at my nursery that the squirrels know better. I'll keep it in mind.

I'd be careful planting any vine next to a tree. Depending upon how quickly it grows and how big it grows, if you don't keep it under control it could cause problems.

I saw "neat" vine in Gurney's catalog shown as a chocolate vine (Akebia quinata) which produced a fruit that tasted like custard. I googled it and found out it is invasive and not recommended anywhere! Have to be very cautious with catalog and online purchases.

Thanks, everyone. This tree is about 40 feet tall and very well established. I can't imagine it not being able to hold up a vine. Thanks for the food for thought, though.

Ann, it's not so much that the tree can't hold up the vine but that the vine winds up covering the canopy so the tree can't get any light.

Have you ever seen a trumpet vine or mustang grapes kill a tree? I have seen both with trunks over 6 inches in dia. climb up and end up killing the tree or trees they use to climb. Here in Texas both are very invasive the same with wisteria if allowed to run free.
