Shading my South Wall

So, I'm trying to shade the south side of my house from the blistering sun that we have here in Texas, and hopefully get the added benefit of food production.

I figured the quickest way to get it done this year was yard long beans run up a string trellis to my roof. It's supposed to love the heat, and also produce a large amount of food.

For the following years though, I am considering a few options.

I could plant Hardy Kiwi, and train it grow to cover my wall.

I could plant a pomegranate fairly close to my wall, and trim to where I can still walk under the foliage to get to my backyard.

Or I could continue to plant vining or just tall annuals every year.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter?
