Did she say what kind of flowers it made?

any chance it is a duranta? This is sapphire showers

Thank you both for your responses! It is definitely not a duranta. This is a much smaller plant and has trumpet type blooms. The leaves are not serrated and are quite small (about one inch long) and if you look closely, you will see that the stems of the leaves are kind of purple.

I have tried to find the ID of this plant and thought that since the blooms look like a Thunberia, I would look for different species and I believe I may have an ID, but need help in comfirming it. I believe it may be Thunbergia Erecta, aka Bush Clock vine or King's Mantle. Do any of you grow Thunbergia Erecta?

Hi Molly, I grow Thunbergia erecta. The blooms are purple with a bright yellow throat, and appear at the leaf nodes along the stem, not at the terminal. The stems are square, and the new growth is purple. There is also a little purple at each leaf node.

Looking at your pictures, I don't recognize the leaves, but I'm sure there can be some variation. If it is King's Mantle, it is easy to root. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information, Jim. I went out a few moments ago and I see that there is a small bud (sort of tear drop shape) that has emerged from the base of a leaf set, so I should have a photo of the bloom in a few days! The plant my friend shared with me turned out to be 3 rooted stems. I potted the largest one in a 10 inch container and I plan to find a place in my flower beds for the other two. Her plant is only about 2-3 ft tall. How tall does your King's mantle get?

Molly, it's about 4 feet tall, and planted against the south side of a fence that runs east and west.
