Yes, it's an oak in the white oak group, but I'm not familiar enough with the many species you have down there to say which one (it could also be a species non-native to TX).

In my experience oaks are fairly tolerant of transplanting, especially so small.

It kinda looks like a burr oak leaf to me. They are really pretty.
