Granted that I am in a quite different area than you, but your comment "Some Virginia creeper popped up in the flower bed" pretty well describes it in my yard. It is difficult to control, spreading with seeds and with underground and surface runners. I don't mind it in the woodland beds that are along the edge of where the yard meets the woods, but it also tries to grow in more well-kept areas and overruns plants of more refined habits. Unless the area you are planning to place it is completely surrounded by an edging and a mowed area, I wouldn't try it.

It volunteered in my yard years ago. It has beautiful leaves but after reading on line about it being a rampant grower I keep digging it out and it keeps coming back. I put some in a pot just in case any body ever wanted it and with hardly any water, and virtually no care at all it was grown quite bushy in a quart container. I guess that tells us something about its tenacity.... LOL

It is even worse than Trumpet vine in my opinion! I have it all around the house foundation on the north and west side. The worst thing is the more I pull and dig up the more it grows. Then it gets a fungus or bug that makes the leaves look lacie. If it does make it to fall, it does have nice fall colors. That is the only nice thing I can say about it. I have been battling it for 17 years now. Hurry and kill it, here in Texas it is very invasive.

Agree about looking for something more docile for that sort of spot. Too much shade and you won't even get the nice fall color. A great vine for the right location, but can require a lot of effort to maintain within a small area on an urban lot.
