I thought it did too! Prettier than those I see at the nature center though.

Although, when I live near Bulverde I had a squirrel planted palm of some sort.
A friend came and dug it up for around their pool.

Eek! It doesn't sound like something I want in my daylily bed, does it? And how did it get here? We're too far north for most palms.

I've had palms come up in nursery pots of plants recently purchased. I surmised they were using compost that had the seed in it, or one blew in. Not knowing the variety I threw them away, but if you're adventurous you could plant it and see what you get or give it away to some adventurous gardener ,,, :-)

If you are going to dig it out, do it now. Brian had a devil of a time digging the one at my previous house.
As a teen I went with my great uncle to harvest dates. He dried them with the seeds in them. So it is feasible that a date could have gotten in someone's compost that way.
I would not keep it. Roaches/ palmetto bugs live in palms.

OK, it's in a pot. Now y'all have got to help me -- I know as much about palms as Prissy did about birthin' babies. Does it want wet? Dry? Sun? Shade? Will it survive a Dallas winter?

This looks like a California fan palm to me - Washingtonia filifera. These are hardy in DFW and survived the really bad winter in 2011.

They get huge! Very wide trunks and large crowns. It should be easy to transplant at this size.
