We didn't plant veggies this year, but have feral squash and tomatoes growing in the 6 ft stump hole I back filled with sub-soil mixed with compost. Progeny of the squirrel chewed tomatoes and Sun scalded squash I threw in the compost pile last season.

May not do well because of the late start, but looks like they're going to try to produce very similar to the parents. You might get an oddball, but if the seed is viable, seems like most would be similar to the originals for at least generation or two.
