I planted it a couple of years ago. It spread nicely. But it was slow to come back the next spring and very little came back this spring. Maybe a stem or two. Granted, I didn't give it much, if any, extra water last summer. But, I wanted it to cover the front of my bed. I'm really not sure that it's perennial here. Maybe if you mulched it heavily before the first bad freeze, you might be able to over-winter it.

One of the pictures on my latest gallery thread is a stand I have of it that's bordered with frog fruit so they are kind of mixed in together. I love the look and we just mow it where it borders the grass and it tolerates that OK but there is about a foot wide strip that doesn't get mowed.

It's up against a western facing brick wall and seems to over winter OK but it is supposed to be marginal for cold in our area. It does get some shade from a big bald cypress.

Mine does get water because we water the foundation. (Funny, I water my house but not my plants ;-)

I'd love to have it draping down off containers but all my containers are inside the fence and I'm pretty sure the dogs would just have a field day with that!
