Nasturtium leaves and seeds are good eating too.. I grow it as a vegetable every year. Good stuff. violets are another flower, chrysanthemum. I didn't know about the purslane. I will try. Thank you.

Yep, salads and such. A slightly lemony green. But you can cook with it as well. Purslane is actually good for you too. It is considered somewhat of a nutritional powerhouse. "Mens Health" magazine declares it "one of the ten best foods you aren't eating". Just search for "eating purslane" and you'll come up with a raft of recipes.

Some Mexicans add it to their cheese quesadillas. It tastes good.

One thing I might add is that my wild purslane has smaller leaves than other varieties I've heard of. Not completely clear looking at the picture above, but I think my leaves are smaller -- about a quarter inch or less. That might make a difference in how you prepare them.

Now, this stuff is pretty amazing. It will grow where it is too dry for other things to grow. In fact, it got established in my lawn the year before last when I lost half my lawn, and goodly parts of it turned into purslane.
