I have seen silver pony foot, that ground hugging thyme, if it is a dry and sunny area. If it gets watered and is in shade or part and good dirt, the golden money wart, or golden creeping Jenny is a pretty thing. Out here in the hill country I have this delightful small flower called Parralena, small dogweed.It grows from seed and will grow in rocky soil caliche, and will naturalize There is a pasture on the way to Wimberly that was covered this spring.

I like creeping and elfin thymes. They are well behaved unlike the experiment with ajuga that covered the stones :-)

Lol, Pam, Ajuga will cover anything, but I love it.

Carrie, I'm not familiar w/Ajuga but will look it up. Since the pathway is on the long side, maybe I'll plant a little of each, and may the best plant win. I will be watering until at least Oct., so that's a long enough time to find out how well it will do. ; o)

Depending upon how much sun/regular water the path gets, you may need to keep watering with the thyme. The one I planted in full sun in the ground needed supplemental water even after it was established. The rest I have in a pot and I managed to kill it last summer by leaving it in full sun and not giving it enough water. Granted, last summer was hard on plants, but....

It is late for planting. Some things might resent being planted now. I know that thyme is likes to be planted in the fall so it's roots can get established.. Wooly Thyme is an interesting plant. Yes the thyme needs some water in the summer when it gets so hot. Are you guys ready for the BIG HEAT coming next week. I am not.

I do water my thyme a couple times a week if we don't get rain.
