The 60% or so that survived our mild zone 8a (DFW) winter have had very inconsistent returns (some huge, some tiny) and the new volunteers a very slow start... a bit weird because last year's left over seed sown in late March is already up more evenly and blooming. Last year's plants are blooming just a few at a time rather than en masse. I'm about to cut them all back to try to get them onto the same schedule. Haven't grown these long enough to know if this is typical or a result of our late cool nights and freezes - they're considered more of an annual this far north, so getting more than one year out of them in an exposed location is a bonus anyway.

Last year`s crop was so good, every stage . I cut them back twice and they came back strong and bloomed till frost. Ours are much like you say yours are. I suspect the late frost has something to do with it and like you I`m going to give chopping them all back a try to see if can force some color. Thanks for your reply
