aerial roots on grape vine (Black Spanish)

I noticed these aerial roots on my Black Spanish grape vine, that is ten years old. I have four of these vines, but only this one has the aerial roots.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might happen?

I'm in Austin, with gumbo clay that is amended with cotton burr compost and covered in hardwood mulch. I use a soaker hose to water, but only do so rarely.

Our muscadines do that too. Except the roots hang straight down and get a little longer each year. Many are over a foot long. Maybe a response to lots of moisture at those spots? Doesn't seem to be a negative thing though.

Some of my plants have aerial roots as well. Personally I think it's pretty amazing that they can do that.

I've not encountered anything negative about aerial roots. In fact, if the plant gets damaged or broken where the roots are forming, I can just put it right back in a rooting medium and it will form a new plant!
