Your plant might need to get a bit more established before blooming. I've found it takes about a year for one gallon Pride of Barbados to bloom. My plants in the front yard with a bit of afternoon shade bloom several weeks later than the ones in the back with about 10 hours sun. They will continue to bloom for eight weeks or more so you could get blooms this year.

Best to hold off transplanting until fall.

Thanks rock oak deer. I was thinking of transplating it to my front yard where they would get afternoon shade and a little less water. Guess I should leave it where it is for now and see what happens. Will update if I get blooms.

don't put it in the shade, the more sun you can give these the better they do. Mine is in the front yard, full sun all day and drier than the Sahara, as soon as it puts out leaves in the spring it starts blooming and blooms all summer until the first cold front.
