I can't answer yes or no but definitely let us know how you fare. My parents have hundreds of them so if they do well, I could prep a lot for the swaps.

Oh, yeah, I sure have. They are great little understory trees! I transplanted a number of redbud and dogwood seedlings from my parent's yard to mine a few years ago. They are all about 5-6' tall now. Very hardy when planted under canopy trees. See link below.

I need to check with my brother. I potted up 8 or so and took them to him in Arkansas a few years ago. I never remember to ask whether they 'took' or not.

Well its looking a little punk today, but still hanging on.

We've potted some of that size before with no problem since you can still get most of the roots. Just keep them in shade while they get reestablished.

I do love redbuds!

They have 12 mile long taproots.

If you can get those, & keep them in the shade & keep them watered, they usually take.

Even if they lose every leaf, keep the faith & keep them in the shade & keep them watered & watch for new leaves.

Redbud is a pretty bad reseeder for me in my sandy soil. My oldest one is 20-25 years old and loses branches so regularly
that it has become an ugly mess.
