Here's a close up the plant starting to fruit...these will turn into perfectly round berries.

Looks like Pokeweed to me.

I have that in my garden too! It's a pretty plant until you find out what it is :-)

"Poke salad Annie" I agree it is poke weed.

I have a "mess" of it in my kitchen right now to be prepared tomorrow. We love it.............it is just a lot of trouble to prepare as I always parboil it at least four times. Poke salat is free for the picking and preparing.

Carrie, does it taste like spinach? My hubby won't touch cooked greens but I like them.

Somewhat, Pam. My husband likes it with onions, garlic and then scramble eggs in it. I also fix it with sour cream like spinach.

So that's what that is!

But it is poisonous unless prepared properly, please look up how to prepare it, it has to be boiled a few times at least and DON"T eat the berries.

I have a little grove of it on the far outer side of the yard. I also have chile petin bushes, and the birds use the berries of both.

We never had a problem cooking it but we took cuttings when it first sprouted and is still very tender. It does not taste like any other greens.
