stare down after chasing away from feeder

What is the first bird? I've have been hearing a lot of bird chatter in the past week, since we had the cool temps.

I love hummingbird wars! It's really hard to get such a clear shot of them. You did good!

I think the first bird is a Male House Finch.
We have maybe 3 hummingbirds frequent the feeders, and often one chases another one away, but this time seemed to end in a stare down.

I have both the house finch and purple finch, Ruth. The only way I can distinguish between them is when they sit still long enough for me to see their tails. The purple finch has a notched tail and the house finch, one that is squared. I agree with Pam that it is incredible you got a pic of the hummers................they are "speedy" little birds. Good job !

Okay, thanks Carrie. This must be the purple finch since it definitely has a notched tail. I love watching the birds and getting pictures, but wish I knew the names better.
I get lots of pictures of the single hummingbirds at the feeder, but usually when there's more than one, they are too busy chasing each other.

This picture is a little clearer, but the one at the top doesn't seem to be looking at the other one here.

It's really hard to tell from the picture but I think the first one is a house finch. They also have a notch just not as deep. Purple finches (males) have a raspberry colored wash all along the back of their necks and wings that HF's don't have. HF are not native to this area but have spread all over the US due to being kept as pets in the past and are very common. The female PF's have a much more striking head marking so you can identify them that way.
