Oops! I meant adenium, not abelia. Sorry for the confusion!

Sago Palms are like dinosaurs, and it takes an A-bomb to kill them...

First off, they are relatively comfortable with their roots being a bit confined. Not rootbound, mind you, but they like a rather snug fit for awhile.

If it's doing well inside where it is, you can choose to repot it into a larger pot, no bigger than about 2-3" more space than it's already in, and leave it inside. They grow so slowly, which is why a 15+ year old specimen is so pricey!

When you repot it, you'll see that the roots grow in a coil, like a spring. Just lift the entire plant from its current pot, and set it into the new pot with about 3-4" of new potting mix on the bottom. Don't bother spreading out the roots, they'll find their way. Drop the new mix in around the roots, and bump the pot on the floor every so often as you're filling it, to make the potting mix settle down firmly. Don't press the potting mix down. You'll get relatively few air bubbles, and a good settling of the mix.

Water the mix in gently but thoroughly about halfway, and continue filling, then water in again.

Your Sago should recover fairly quickly because you haven't put it through any traumatic transplanting, and it should not go into shock.

Sagos are tough, and don't like to be too wet. Let them dry out a bit in between waterings, but, you already know this since yours is doing so well already!

It's in it's new pot and doing well. Im moving it outside to south porch and if it likes it there will plant in ground next spring. Thanks for the info!
