both should be fine in the ground. Ike killed my Rangoon creeper but had no effect on it in the community garden.

Here in San Antonio my Rangoon creeper has never failed to come back even after the coldest winters of the last 15 years, but I lost night blooming jasmines a couple of times to hard freezes so for the last 8 or 9 years I've grown it in a five gal. pot. Before cold weather I cut it all the way back so it takes up less room and drag it into the over wintering house. It quickly grows back and blooms after being brought out in the spring.

It will take a warm winter, but I decided to stop taking chances with it as it was difficult to find back in those days. Now it's more readily available.

The night blooming jasmine has never overwintered for me in North Texas.............not once, so I really think it cannot survive any kind of prolonged freezing temps. I would definitely keep it in a container.

I think that Rangoon creepers died in the really bad freeze in Austin a couple of years back. but they survived fine in my old back yard in central austin for years. I am not at that house now so I can't tell you about it. I do know that they had a gorgeous one at the coffee shop above the Great Outdoors Nursery. I think it would be a good bet if you mulched through the winters and had it grow back from the roots. They do like an amended rich soil and some moisture, not a huge ammount, just more than what nature has been giving us..

Both of these are very hardy for me. Fragrance at night with the night blooming jasmine (the entire yard is scented when this blooms) and in the daytime with the sweet fragrance from the flowers of the rangoon keeper. I love them both
