I don't know about growing them in Texas, but when in Oklahoma, I got a few (perhaps six) mature seeds off the plant the entire year. it seemed that they didn't set, didn't mature (often due to critters eating them), or something.

I had a bunch of seedlings come up everywhere next year. A bit too invasive for my taste...

Ours are in peak flower after the recent rains with dozens of green fruits on each plant and as many flowers still waiting for the pollinators and hummers. Would have to harvest every few days starting in July as they ripen a few at a time until a big show (or two) in late August or September.

Dbarron is right that critters take a lot and occasionally clean them out. Am guessing here, but yield for size seems similar to our native blackberry. Don't know if they fruit more as they get older or it's just that the low hanging fruits on small plants get eaten, but our decade old 6 footers do seem to produce more fruits per flower than the smaller volunteers.

Here in east Texas my Turk's cap (grown in mostly shade, sandy soil) fruits readily later in the season. I like to nibble on them as I walk through the garden, and spit out the seeds as I walk. Somehow that leads to seedlings along all my paths :)

They're a firm somewhat sweet fruit - Texas cherries maybe? - that I like. I wonder if they'd make a good jelly?
