How are your tomatoes doing?

Posted by marti8a (My Page) on

My Romas had green tomatoes on them a month ago and they just didn't ripen, but lately, they have started turning. Only they are motley. I don't know if it's the heat, virus, or a leaf sucking insect (the leaves don't look great either, I suspect the insect there for sure, whatever it's called.)

RE: How are your tomatoes doing?

My vines are tall, wide, green, and healthy thanks to sufficient watering.

Just too hot to set fruit.

I am wondering if I should continue nursing them into fall or just pull them up and start over with new plants.

RE: How are your tomatoes doing?

I dumped mine as a waste of water. Just too hot to get more than a few scattered fruits. I'll have to think about misting in the shade house next year.

RE: How are your tomatoes doing?

I'm new to gardening... what happens if we ride out the heat and keep watering? I have about 8-12 tomatoes, but some have been there almost a month. They are still green, some are getting bigger and others seem to grow slower. The leaves look okay... I've noticed some leaf miners but I check and pluck them daily. Am I waisting my time trying to save the plant?? I'd love to see others pictures to compare. I have a better bush growing in a 5 gal. container.

RE: How are your tomatoes doing?

Mine have been dead for awhile and I am not planting anything till I get water aplenty.
