Yep!

googled & there it was!

White mulberry is the tree used to feed silkworms, & was brought to this country when some bright person thought silkworms could be raised here.

didn't work.

but the trees thrived!

Today, they are a fast-growing shade tree, but you don't want them if you have the native red mulberries, as the 2 can crossbreed, & the whites & crossbred trees will crowd out the natives.
