I'm new to gardening, and have built a 10ft x 4 1/2ft raised bed.. I filled with 14 bags of cotton burr compost. Can I grow vegetable's in cotton burr compost only?

RE: Soil in Houston

Yes you can. You still need to pay attention to drainage. Much of the soil in Houston is expansive clay (black gumbo). When it is wet it swells and will not let water pass through. On this type of soil I prefer to put down a layer of course sand and place the raised bed on top. Or if you already have it installed drill in some holes for drainage. (Assuming you have wood edging)
