I bought it in the fall and have it in a pot, so I can't really give you any good feedback. It has bloomed off and on during the year and I like the color and fragrance. It hasn't grown much, but none of my roses have done well this year so far.
I have this, and perhaps it is not in the best place, but slow if any growth this summer, some die back, and no blooms. Still it is it's first year, and I would be willing to give it a try were I you, as the reputation is great...depending upon your available space.
I grew it several years ago. The blooms are beautiful and the fragrance is exceptionally good. It's a hybrid tea and like many of that class it gets black spot. The foliage is sparse, it grows slowly and stays small on it's on roots. For me the repeat was not all that great. It might have done better if it had been grown in the more moist environment of a pot as I do most of my roses now.
Coolroses.com offers it on Fortuniana. That's the way I'd go if I wanted to try it again. I'd prefer that all my roses were on Fortuniana. It's a great root stock for the south. The roots roam far and wide to gather water and nutrients and the roses grow larger and are healthier.
I got mine from Chamblee's last spring and like the others who have posted, mine is a slow grower. Still like the color and fragrance. One of the reasons that I purchased, tho, is that is doesn't get really big. I think that it will take 3 years for it to fill out. still like it.
I have two Francis Dubreuil. One in the sun is growing well, but the other is in too much shade and needs to be moved. It has sparse foliage and no blooms since summer began. I expect to move it this winter. I think that under optimal conditions (plenty of sun and water), this is a great plant. Not a 10 because the bloom isn't constant and the foliage could be thicker, but maybe an 8 because of the fragrance and the dark red color of the bloom.
