Thanks, but thats not it. I had checked it over yesterday and saw nothing and went out and carefully checked again. Its not thrips and I don't see any other insect except for tiny black ants. Could it simply be too much water? We have had such an unusual amount of rain this spring and summer.

I am not sure of the variety, its got leaves like the hardy types which are heart
shaped and red flowers that are big but not huge. I got the seeds from a native garden here and assumed its a Texas type.

There are two more buds showing red tips, close to opening so I will wait and see.

I have lost a few blooms from a healthy plant that bloomed later.

Sometimes if a plant is stressed for any number of reasons it will abort the buds. I hope the new buds open for you.
