Only the female trees produce fruit.
I had about 6 trees, but only two produce fruit.
The fruit are all seed any way, so be thankful you don't have fruit. It turns black and the birds leave purple droppings every where.
They are nice trees.

Are they Texas persimmon or American persimmon? Just curious. Texas persimmon pulp is sweet and kinda licorice like to me. My Texas persimmons got nipped by a late cold front in the spring that fried the buds. The trees are fine. It could be you're in a microclimate that is colder than the nursery, or could have male plants.

So other than bird and critter food, what can you do with persimmons? I have a volunteer persimmon on out property line that is loaded with branch breaking fruit every year.

De-seed and juice or extract the pulp. People put it in breads and baked goods.

Eat them in an emergency situation and survive.

My dad had told me he used to eat them as a kid. He'd go home and his mouth would be purple and his mom knew what he'd been up to!

My trees are the natives. I didn't check the one at the nursery very closely. The fruit was the size of a shooter marble. But that nursery has a lot of natives, so I just figured that's what it was.

I hear Texas persimmons make good jelly, and I'm hoping to try it out this year. There is a recipe in "Edible and Useful Plants of Texas and the Southwest."

I really like the Texas Persimmon. The bark is muscled and sinewy looking, kind of like a crepe myrtle in that way. Probably of the trees I've planted they are the toughest....they show absolutely no sign of heat stress, never get watered, and seemingly bugs leave them alone. About as tough as a jujube I'd say.

What kind of persimmon is it - Oriental or American (larger orange fruit) or Texas (smaller black fruit as shown below)?
