Speaking of tulips for Texas. . .

Can anybody identify this little beauty? It appears every year in the totally neglected yard of a rental house in my neighborhood. It seems ideally suited for our climate, but so far I have had no luck finding what it is. The stems are about 12 - 18 inches and it blooms in late March.
