I planted some of these, but they didn't return the next year. Might have just been my particular garden. I'm interested to see if anyone else has had success. I'm always on the lookout for things that will bloom in the winter. Perhaps others can make more suggestions along that line.

You also asked about Japanese irises in another post. I have some, and they have done exceptionally well, forming a large clump after a couple of years. I would definitely give these a try.

are your soil & water acid or alkaline?

I've got pla-doh alkaline clay here, (although the bearded irises do well.)

The replies on the other thread were from gardeners in warmer zones, so I still am holding out some hope!

Sylvia, I got it summer of 2012.
February is the only time it's bloomed unless it I missed it.

I've had it for about ten years...it's bloomed several winters (at least five) between November and March...it takes a couple of years to settle in after moving.

Elizabeth Lawrence calls Iris unguicularis "Algerian Iris" in her books - prized because it blooms in winter.
I've only seen it in photos, not IRL. Were you able to buy it locally ruthz or did you have to order it?

I got it in a trade from a lady in California.
